What is a landing page and when to use one?

Nikola CerićFounder & CEO, Manage IT

A landing page has one goal and one call to action. We explain when to use one (campaigns, ads) and what makes it successful.

A landing page is a focused page with one goal — most often collecting inquiries, sign-ups or a direct purchase — without the site's main menu and other links that could pull the visitor's attention away from that one concrete action.

Unlike a regular site page offering the visitor many paths (go to services, read about us, see references), a landing page deliberately narrows the choice to one decision: click this button, or send this form.

When to use a landing page

For paid ads and marketing campaigns, where every click costs money directly and must convert into an inquiry or purchase as well as possible — sending ad traffic to a generic homepage usually means losing money because the visitor doesn't quickly find what they clicked for.

For launching one specific product, service or time-limited promotion, where you want all attention focused on that single offer.

For collecting sign-ups (webinar, newsletter, early product access) where the goal is solely to get a contact detail, not to sell the full service right away.

What makes a landing page successful

A clear message and value visible within the first few seconds — the visitor must not have to scroll and search for what you're offering, they must see it immediately.

One clearly highlighted call to action (a button, a form) repeated in several places on the page, instead of ten different buttons leading to ten different places.

Loading speed and a flawless mobile display are critical — most ad clicks come from phones, and every second of waiting directly reduces the number of people who reach the end of the page.

Social proof (references, numbers, client logos) near the call to action significantly increases trust and the visitor's willingness to leave their details.

Conclusion

A landing page is not a replacement for the whole site — it is a specialised tool for a concrete goal, most often combined with paid advertising or launching something new. A well-made landing page measurably increases the conversion of the same marketing budget.
